Ivybridge cabbies have the knowledge TAXI drivers in Ivybridge are top of the class after being awarded NVQ qualifications, writes Nathan Gray. Drivers from the Ivybridge-based taxi firm Ivy Cabs have been swotting up for the qualifications as part of a training scheme that gives recognition for the skills and knowledge needed to be a good and responsible taxi driver. Julie Godward, director of Ivy Cabs Ltd, arranged for every driver with the firm to take part in the training. "We did it to prove to the public that we do take our jobs seriously, and that our services should be taken seriously." The NVQ level two qualification involves drivers studying topics including customer service, health and safety, dealing with emergencies and incidents, and business management. The Ivybridge firm is one of the first taxi firms in the country to put all of their drivers through the course, paid for as part of the Government's key skills training programme. Mrs Godward said: "Quite frankly there are not many firms out there with the NVQs. I think it just provides extra piece of mind, and shows our customers that we are prepared to go to extra lengths." Mrs Godwin continued: "The more you put into it, the more you get out. I think it's good that you have qualifications for the job, and I definitely believe more firms should be encouraged to get involved." The drivers from Ivy Cabs were awarded their NVQ certificates in a ceremony by Ivybridge Mayor, Cllr Frances Reeve, and councillors Melvyn Stone and John Squire. http://www.thisisplymouth.co.uk/news/ |

Out of curiosity does anybody think these courses would have been of any use to them before they were drivers? |

To me personally.... no Having had experience in another trade while also being in this trade, the common sense and IQ factor overlapped into this one.... In fact it's a complete doddle compared to my other lapsed trade....
