Post subject:  Taxi complaint against tayside police

Report - Tayside PoliceReference: PCCS/00601/PF-TP(A) and (B)
Police Body: Tayside Police
Date: 19 March 2010
Download: Download Report - Tayside Police
The applicant is a taxi operator whose taxi is driven by Mr A. Between 2006 and 2009 Constable B issued Mr A with various warnings under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 in respect of the condition of the taxi. These warnings have resulted in Mr A being referred to the local authority's licensing committee on two occasions. As the conditions imposed under the 1982 Act apply to taxi drivers rather than taxi operators, the warnings issued to Mr A had no direct impact upon the applicant. The applicant nevertheless felt that he was being picked on and singled out by Constable B and he complained to Tayside Police regarding the latter's actions.

The Commissioner found that both complaints were handled by Tayside Police in a reasonable manner. Accordingly, no further action is required of Tayside Police in respect of the complaints.

However, the Commissioner identified as a learning point the need for all statements taken during the course of a complaints investigation to be dated. The Commissioner expects this to be communicated to all officers within Tayside Police who have responsibility for handling complaints.

Dundee police not doing to well  Below is a letter that Allan Petrie has wrote to the secretary for justice. Also A BEBO PAGE THAT SLATES THE POLICE. Every taxi driver in Dundee is to be interviewed.

To the Cabinet Secretary for Justice

I write to you asking for your intervention to call for a full inquiry into the events leading up to the disappearance and consequent murder of Dundee woman Mary McLaren.

Mary McLaren, 34, was last seen on February 25th after a visit to Fat Sams nightclub in Dundee with her sister Michelle Rodger.

Mrs McLaren was spotted in Marketgait near to its junction with King Street at around 3am with a man she met at the club.

Her body was found in undergrowth on an embankment to the north of Ladywell roundabout in Dundee city centre during a search on Wednesday 10th March.

It is our understanding that when the 2 sisters left Fat Sams night club an altercation occurred and police became involved. This incident we believe was caused by a man making unwelcome approaches to Mary McLaren and her sister Michelle Rodgers. Michelle was consequently arrested and received a £60 fine this action split the sisters up on the night and left Mary alone with the man.

However what many people do not understand is why Tayside Police did not take the allegations being made by Michelle Rodgers seriously and why at the very least was the name and details not taken of this man Michelle was making the allegations about?

The missing persons enquiry spend much time hunting for information on this man who was the last person seen with Mary. If the basic policing had been carried out properly the police would have known who this individual was and how to contact him. Furthermore it would seem that the police in this instance where more concerned with Michelle Rodgers not giving them the respect they somehow believed they where due and ignored totally the concerns she was making to them in connection with this man.

Many Citizens of Dundee have grave concerns with regards to the events leading up to Mary going missing and only through a full enquiry (which should be a public one) can the people of Dundee and beyond have these questions answered and any action taken to ensure this could not happen again.
