You seem to have an astonishining inability to pay attention CC.
All you have quoted can happen, but it doesn't need to. That it may well have is entirely due to the trade's inability to take control and manage its own affairs.
As in Dublin it may suit a local authority just to rip the cap off and let confusion reign. Dublin did so with no quality controls in place. That was stupid. It got the result it deserved and the trade, concentrating on trying to protect its vested interest false plate values, couldn't see what was happening. It was so busy weeping it couldn't see what needed to be done.
Councils like Edinburgh have been aware of the problems associated with derestriction but, rather than realise the inevitable and prepare for it, they are stoically defending the indefensible.
Private hire in Edinburgh has expanded 300% simply because drivers like me have been denied unfettered access to the tools of our trade. Had we had full access, PH would not be the problem today and certainly wouldn't be dictating a 30% reduction in tariff.
In Edinburgh we already have some quality controls, I have long argued that these should be enhanced.
In short CC your drivel is irrelevant. Your response was an ill considered knee jerk to an argument you've lost.
BTW Dougie, you're just an erse, devoid of logic and who places your own greedy vested interest before that of customers. You could never operate in a competitive market, you have no commercial awareness. I sometimes wonder whether your mother knows that you're out
BTW2 Many thanks to the "unworthy" who sent me the spoken text telling me I am a [edited by admin]. It was a good laugh, you must be in some real pain to have bothered, you must already know you've lost the argument and felt a need to show us all that you're hurting big tme.
Re:Jasbar
The point is Jim your views are so outdated it's starting to sound like you need someone other than SKULL to talk to, maybe a shrink will help

I've said many times that if you had started your crusade before the PHC had expanded 300% you may have an argument but it's too late Jim give up the ghost of Taxi plates past, the PHC are here within our limited Edinburgh Taxi market, we the Taxi trade will just have to compete starting with a merged Taxi company (CC&CRT).
The market in Edinburgh is not guaranteed it's economy driven, as you know there is a recession going on of which i believe is just hitting the street economy, cash business, yes us Cabbies Jim, all over this forum you read the pain you read the calls for a cap on licences but still you pursue your quest and in my and many others opinion, you are just out to WIN and screw everyone, you don't have any common sense or care when it comes to the current financial climate and financial implications that will occur to many within our trade in Edinburgh, you are a GUTTER SNIPER.
As for no commercial awarenes

well i'm content playing my game, i have and will continue to do well enough, it's also obvious though that i'm more commercially aware than you, i bought my plate and cab for £23,000 8 years ago (2 years rental up front) a further £27,000 on a brand new taxi 6+ years ago, total investment £50,000 and hey if i sold up now i'd get my money back, so you could say it would have cost me nothing to operate for the last 8 years and also saved myself 8 years of paying a rental, sorry Jim for that wee bit of commercial awareness oh and by the way you could recommend to your Tourist punters Taxy999tours

My tours are offered within my BUSINESS premises, nothing to lose, no websites, just good old gift of the gab oh and a

thank you very much SIR as i appreciate the gratuity handed.
So how much rental have you paid over the years Jim? Owning or renting Jim!!! you get feckall back for renting

Oh a bit like owning a house or renting a house, so come on MR commercially aware gutter sniper how much RENTAL have you paid?
BTW my mother passed away just last year, still a sore one
