Taxi driver in machete fare ordeal 8:20am Wednesday 7th April 2010 A terrified taxi driver was chased down the street by a machete-wielding drunken passenger after he refused to accept sex with the man’s wife as payment for a fare. The driver said he was left shaking and feeling sick after the man ran at him with the 18-inch weapon on Friday night. The 38-year-old father-of-five picked the man up outside The Wellington pub in Bury New Road at about 10.30pm. When the taxi arrived at the man’s address in Willows Lane, Deane, the passenger refused to pay, instead offering the driver the chance to go inside for “jiggy jiggy with wife”. The drunken man, who is thought to be Polish, reacted furiously as the Metro driver explained this would not be acceptable. The taxi driver, who asked not to be named, said the man became aggressive and threatening. The driver pressed his panic button and a number of other drivers from the same firm arrived on the scene, prompting the passenger to start shouting at them and hitting their cars. He then ran inside his house and came out with the machete. The driver said: “It wasn’t just a kitchen knife - it was a machete, about a foot-and-a-half long. “He made a beeline for me and I was off like Steve Cram. He was extremely drunk and the other drivers just parted like the Red Sea because they feared for their own safety. I was shaking and being sick.” The driver dialled 999 as soon as he reached a safe distance from his would-be attacker. A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of affray and bailed pending further inquiries. Source; thisislancashire.co.uk |

Machete-man who chased taxi driver down the street disappears 10:00am Tuesday 13th April 2010 A taxi passenger who chased the driver down the street wielding an 18- inch machete is being hunted by police after he skipped bail. The 37-year-old brandished the weapon at the terrified driver after an argument broke out over payment of a fare in Willows Lane, Deane, earlier this month. The drunken passenger is understood to have refused to pay, instead asking the driver to come inside his house for “jiggy jiggy with wife”. The fare was only £10, but was higher than normal because, after picking him up outside The Wellington pub in Bury New Road, the driver was given the wrong address by friends who helped the man into the taxi. The attacker was arrested later that night on suspicion of affray, and was due to answer police bail on Thursday, but he did not turn up. Police are now searching for him. The 38-year-old Metro taxi driver, who asked not to be named, was left feeling sick and shaken after his ordeal. He ran several blocks away from his would-be attacker before calling police. The driver said: “I’m not surprised he’s done this. When I found out he’d been bailed I half expected him to do a flit. This bloke needs to be caught.” The drunken passenger, who is thought to be Polish, reacted furiously when the driver explained that sex with his wife would not be an acceptable payment. He became aggressive and threatening, prompting the driver to press his panic button, and a number of Metro drivers quickly arrived on the scene. The man shouted at them and hit their cars, before running into his house and emerging with the machete. Source; theboltonnews.co.uk |

Whilst I think this is shocking and drivers shouldn't have to worry that they may be attacked by their passenger this driver clearly had the opportunity to drive away before the man came out welding a machete. Even though he didn't drive away I still don't understand why the driver ended up running away I think perhaps the attacker has jumped a squeezy jet back to Poland
