Leeds private hire raids reveal haul of wallets and cards

Police are making inquiries after visits to two private hire offices in Leeds turned up large numbers of wallets, purses, passports, keys and debit cards.
The find came during a day of action to target crime in North West Leeds.

Five private hire drivers were suspended and 13 vehicles found to have defects during 40 inspections of private hire vehicles.

Police from the North West Inner Neighbourh
ood Policing Team (NPT) and Roads Policing officers, along with officers from HM Revenue and Customs, HMRC Road Fuel Testing Unit, Vehicle Licensing, Entertainments Licensing and the Court Service visited more than 30 premises in the Burley and Hyde Park areas.

More than 5kg of tobacco was seized from one address and 12 warrants were chased up with one payment made and two people agreeing to attend court.

Fixed penalty notices were issued for offences such as driving without tax or a licence.

Sgt Rachel Claughton, of North West Inner NPT, said: "We will continue to carry out operations like these and prosecute anyone who is found to be breaking the law."
