Is it just me or, are things going from bad to worse? We've had the Easter Holidays, and the Volcanic eruption in Iceland, but yet things don't seem to be improving. I really thought it would've picked up somewhat, but it doesn't appear to be happening.

What gives?

Is it perhaps the forthcoming election and the economic aftermath that's stopping people spending?

I'm hearing a lot of horror stories, about guys leaving the trade, going under, or trying to sell up.

I think its because the nation fears another impending recession in the event of a hung parliament..the experts predict we are going to be hung out to dry by the worlds financial types because theyre jittery enough without a UK goverment that is in a state of impotent decision making limbo.

Your right, Folks are just sitting on their money rather than spending it.

The people get a hung parliament and the goverment gets an electorate thats hanging by its baws...

I do know a guy who is looking for guy's like you with no business accumen to clean cars/Taxi's ect, minimum wage of course

The trade has been in recession for at least the last 10 years, and in that time, Ph numbers have tripled. We've lost 30-40% of our customer base to Ph, and other transport groups. Vested interests have focused solely on swelling the labour pool of drivers, to hiked rentals and inflated plate premiums. The current economic recessions has only compounded the trades downward spiral.

Now more than ever, drivers need unfettered access to the tools of their trade. It's every man for himself.

There's been a cap on taxi numbers since 1991. And now we have less work than ever. If this is your idea of restriction working to protect our customer base you couldn't be more wrong.

Drivers had already started to leave in numbers earlier in the year, Now we are at the point where not enough replacements are coming in to level it off.
No-one in their right mind would start as an Edinburgh taxi driver now

I've been seeing new messages on my data box everyday for "N/S driver wanted". No saturdays available though.

Anyone getting a plate now better realise that they might well be single shifting that motor by themselves.

Isn't that something we should all be cheering about?

Fewer drivers means a bigger bit of the cake for the existing trade.

If Only.

As drivers leave it is owners who normally sit on their back sides that are having to come out themselves.
And those who do work are having to do longer shifts and extra days.
The motors will still be there , to an extent, just with very sleepy drivers.
