Users of a council-subsidised taxi service which runs in part of Wiltshire are protesting at its closure.
The Buzz night service operates in the evenings between Pewsey and Devizes after most buses have finished and carries some 300 passengers a month.
It is operated by Devizes Taxis but subsidised by Wiltshire Council.
Wiltshire Council says it was introduced as an experiment in 2007, but say it costs the taxpayer £10 in subsidy per journey.
'Efficiency savings'
A council spokesman said it could not justify continuing to pay the £50,000 per year subsidy given the current restrictions on public finances and says contract will end in May.
Campaigners say the service is vital and very popular allowing people who can not get home in time to catch the regular bus to make the journey affordable.
Supporter Kate Freeman says users have already identified ways the service can be run for less money and says it should be allowed to stay.
"I think the case [to keep it] is very strong. It is now up to the council's cabinet to ask themselves whether the efficiency savings - the behind-the-scenes stuff, the overheads have been looked at first before cutting a frontline service.
"It's extraordinarily unfair - we think it is affordable," she added.

I have just saved them £14,000 on this subsidy.
They say there are 300 passengers per month. If you multiply this by 12 you get 3600. The council say they pay a £10 subsidy per passenger so that would be £36,000. Just cut out the other £14,000 and the job is done.
I would also be very suprised if all 300 passengers per month travel alone so the subsidy could be per trip and not per passenger. Easy isn't it.

Ours has already been scrapped.

How much is it for a taxi from Pewsey and Devizes? Also if there is a need for public transport why are there no buses running :?
