A convicted killer who wants to be a London taxidriver will take his fight to the High Court after his appeal was thrown out by magistrates who said: “A risk to the public remains.”

Shamsul Haque, 38, who strangled his wife Asiya, 23, nine years ago, had his private hire licence revoked after it emerged he was learning the Knowledge. He did not appear before City of London magistrates, where his bid to have his licence reinstated failed.

Haque, a paranoid schizophrenic, admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility in 2001. In 2003 a mental health tribunal recommended his release.

His conviction is spent and barring him from working could lead to legal action citing restraint of trade or human rights violations.

And all this will be on legal aid.

You can't take the man's right to work as a taxi driver away just because he killed somebody, ffs. So long as he keeps taking the tablets and we keep taking ours everything will be fine

I disagree all cabbies should be of good character the consequences of letting someone loose with passengers like that who clearly has the ability to be violent is a risk too far

Dealing with children and vulnerable adults cannot be avoided, IMHO.

This should be an exception to 'spent convictions', whatever they may be.

Would you be happy giving this guy a license knowing that he may stop taking his tablets at any moment?
A man's right to work as a long distance lorry driver can be taken away for type 1 diabetes and as far as I am aware no diabetic has committed a murder for not taking his medication.

I thought this may have indicated the sarcasm used in this comment, but, obviously not. If anybody remembered the last time this story was on here I didn't agree then either.

and being slightly OCD I've cleaned it to a mirror shine and sharpened it to cut paper so you can't have it back
