Cab driver rapist jailed indefinitely after string of attacks against women and girls

Victims of a rapist mini-cab driver who preyed on young girls and women for 15 years say they finally have justice.
Paedophile sex attacker Paul Hewitt, 50, has started an indefinite prison sentence for his crimes.
Despite four previous separate trials at Hull Crown Court, a jury has never been able to convict him until the latest trial, when it was told of all his offending.
Over the last 15 years he has targeted five women and children aged 11 to 21 in Hull and the East Riding.
One victim has waited nine years for justice after he attacked her in his cab in October 2001.
Despite going to the police and having a trial the jury failed to believe her.
But, with Hewitt now jailed following the latest court case, the 30-year-old said: "Today his victims finally have justice. Finally he can no longer hurt anyone else.
"I just wish I had been believed nine years ago and some of these other victims could have been spared. The streets are a safer place now he is behind bars."
Hewitt drove his vulnerable female passengers to deserted areas late a night and subjected them to sex attacks, committing his first attack in 1995.
His 15 year reign terror came to an end due to the bravery of a 13-year-old girl.
He raped her and threatened to kill her but due to her courage in reporting the attack Hewitt is now behind bars.
Judge Roger Thorn QC has sentenced Hewitt to an indeterminate sentence to protect the public.
A jury convicted him of two rapes, two indecent assaults, threats to kill, two assaults by penetration, two counts of sexual activity with a child and three counts of possessing horrific indecent images and videos of children at the worst possible level.
He will have to serve eight and a half years before he can apply for parole and will not be released until he is no longer considered to be a danger.
