Pair charged after attack on taxi driver

Two people have been charged following an attack on a taxi driver that left him with a broken ankle and a suspected broken nose.

Jason Edge, 21, of Kelverlow Street, Oldham, and a 17-year-old boy from Oldham who cannot be named for legal reasons, have both been charged with section 20 assault and are due to appear before Oldham magistrates today, Tuesday, May 4.

The charges relate to an incident shortly after 2am on Monday when the 50-year-old driver of a private hire cab was assaulted following a dispute over a fare.

He was attacked after dropping off two people on Hollinhall Street, Oldham. The victim was taken to Royal Oldham Hospital where he received treatment to a broken ankle, a suspected broken nose and cuts to the head.

He is currently in a stable condition in hospital.

Course it is, otherwise you'd have nobody to bring home.

GBH for all those not knowing what a section 20 assault is.

If convicted it means jail.

Scumbags don't differentiate between PH drivers and cab drivers.

Next time it could be you.

Or you or anybody...... Sorry Sussex, I dont pick up anybody who I think will be a risk, so far it has worked. I use my gut instinct over the compunction to to be overwhelmed by what would seem a good fare, my safety is far more important than money..... PH are more susceptible to this kind of situation as they don't know who they will be picking up, unless it's a trusted regular. No one is 100% safe but using common sense and a cab with more protection would go a long way..... Sadly the trade isn't blessed with the brightest of people....

With PH there is generally some sort of booking trail, so in my view PH are more protected than taxi drivers who pick up unknowns all the time.

I'm going by what I read here.... It seems that PH drivers are getting it in the neck more than most.... I think it much depends on the driver and how much savvy he has, some just don't have it or their desperation or greed overcomes their gut instincts.....
