A FUMING taxi driver has hit out at council bosses after he was reprimanded for leaving his Hackney Cab unattended in a taxi rank while he went to the toilet.

Cabbie Mohammed Saeed received a warning from Wycombe District Council's taxi chiefs after he left his cab parked and unattended on the rank in High Wycombe's High Street to use the Guildhall public toilets.

Mr Saeed called the warning “ridiculous” and has urged the council to “use some common sense” when applying the rules, “instead of treating taxi drivers like children”.

But the council hit back, saying Mr Saeed's actions had caused a traffic backlog.

Mr Saeed said: “I had just taken people to Gatwick Airport, got back to High Wycombe, parked in the taxi rank and desperately needed to use the toilet.

“I walked to the Guildhall, walked back about 20 minutes later to find people from the council sitting in my car, telling me I would be getting a warning.

“I told them I had been to the public toilet and hadn't been long, but they said 'you should park in a public car park and then use the toilet'.

“It's ridiculous, I bet councillors and council workers don't use a public car park if they need the toilet. They are giving us warnings for small mistakes.

“That warning will be on my file now for three years, it's ridiculous. They need to relax their rules, use a bit of common sense and talk to us instead of treating us like children”.

WDC spokesman Ben Jackson said it is an offence under s62 of the Town Police Clauses Act 1847 to leave a hackney carriage unattended on a rank.

He added: “There was a queue of hackney carriages behind it, the last of which was actually obstructing the road because they either couldn't get past Mr Saeed's vehicle or didn't realise that it was unattended.

“Officers spoke to him and explained the trouble his unattended vehicle had caused. He was advised that he would receive a warning for the offence and that warnings had been issued to other drivers in similar circumstances.

“He was also told that if he needed to leave his vehicle then he should park it in a car park like other members of the public were required to do and that the rank should not be used in such a manner.”

To be fair...many of the drivers out there, are indeed SO full of sh*t, that 20 minutes may be a reasonable estimate (all those on the TDO forums excepted of course......as some of those can take up to an hour and a half   )

Our conditions specifically allow leaving the car unattended on the rank for a pee break.

Can't believe there isn't another loo between Gatwick and High Wycombe.

And if you are that desperate you don't park away from the loo, you park right outside it.
