Hawarden man assaulted taxi driver for parking outside his home

May 20 2010

A man lost his temper and assaulted a woman taxi driver parked outside his home.

It was an on-going problem and Peter Owen, 41, had asked the taxi driver to move, Flintshire Magistrate’ Court was told.

But during an argument outside his home at The Highway, Hawarden, on March 9, he grabbed the driver by the elbow and punched the taxi window, although it did not break.

He was fined £500 with £100 costs and £50 compensation.

District Judge Andrew Shaw said he had assaulted a taxi driver who was doing her job serving the public.

It was aggravated by the fact it was done in the presence of a child passenger, and the fact he had a previous conviction for assault 18 months ago.

Stephen Alis said his client had a shared driveway and it was a daily problem that people would park there.

That day his client had a couple of pints but he denied he was drunk.

He lived across the road to a school and found the taxi parked outside his home, across the driveway.

He had asked her to move but when she indicated she would not, he accepted he had lost his temper.

While remonstrating with her, he accepted he had poked her to the area of the elbow but there were no injuries.

Mr Alis said: “He accepts he lost his temper and he regrets it got out of hand.”
