| Post subject: | Spain tries to sink UK pirate taxis |
THE DISEASE IS SPREADING Britons who illegally drive taxis on the Costa Brava over the summer are facing a crackdown. Spanish cabbies are furious about the fleet of 100 pirate cars, which mostly come from the UK and take their business over the holiday season. Spanish drivers have to pay high fees and pass tests to insure and register cabs. The unregistered Britons charge up to a third less to ferry holidaymakers to resorts such as Malgret de Mar - sometimes cramming people into Transit vans. "They come, do the season then go," said Bienvenido Amate, of Malgret taxi-drivers' guild. Undercover inspectors are to target illegal cabs and hotel staff paid by the pirates for ordering them. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-storie ... -22296233/ |

Firstly there is the cost. It can cost anything from €75,000-€150,000 to get a plate and you must have a good command of Spanish as well. One way that some people get around this is to become "estate agents". If you run a property finding service you are then legally allowed to pick up your "clients" from the airport to take them to view properties that they may wish to purchase. |

They seem to have things slightly different in Spain. The vehicle licences are restricted, they're not all wheelchair accessible and you do have to be able to speak the lingo. Why is our country so eager to conform to EU when the rest of it continues to do as they please or at least appear to do as they please

Because we were hoodwinked into it by Heath and his cronies without a referendum. I'd hazard a guess that if we were to have one now we would be out within a year.......

![]() The first part of that post is the London Minicab trade to a tee. Just add the ability not to know where you're going and you have it in one. |
