Cyclist killed in collision with taxi

TAXI driver has been arrested after a cyclist was knocked off his bike in Merseyside and died.

The incident happened on Saturday, May 29, at around 11.30am on Liverpool Road near its junction with Kingsway in Huyton.

Passersby attempted to resuscitate the 41 year old cyclist but he was later pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

He had been riding along Liverpool Road towards the city when he was on collision with the hackney cab which was travelling in the same direction.

A spokesman for Merseyside Polcie said: “First on the scene were a couple of passersby who gave him CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The 53 year old taxi driver from the Halewood area was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident, particularly passengers on three buses which stopped near the accident.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 777 5771.

I shall wait and see the things I see cyclists do daily it wouldn't surprise me if it was the cyclist caused the collision but the police will assume it was the cabbies fault

I remember an incident a few years ago locally at a set of traffic lights a cyclist undertook a car turning left and was knocked off his bike in full view of a police car coming the other way the police immediately reacted by arresting the car driver the cyclist was travelling at about 20 mph straight down the inside of the traffic moving off after the lights had gone green the car driver wouldn't have spotted the cyclist till the last minute

Sorry to hear the guy was killed..But!

They should have to pass a Test to cycle on the Road, until the Do they should be confined to cycle routes, If drivers have to share the road with them then very least we should can expect is that the cyclist is proven to be safe on to be on the road like a motorist has to be...why should it be the driver that is always deemed to be at fault just to appease the hairbrained green lobby that thinks that people born with Bicycle pedal shaped feet and a deeply creviced arse are some kind of god. :?:

Ultimately many Cyclists would still be alive today and a lot more uninjured if they had higher standards to acheive before they took to cycling down busy roads, its only fair that they take some of the responsibility upon themselves for their own well being.
