Ex-Cabbie Denies 'Night Stalker' Attacks

A former minicab driver has denied being the 'Night Stalker' sex attacker who broke into the homes of his elderly victims before subjecting them to horrific ordeals.

Delroy Grant, 52, from Honor Oak, south-east London, pleaded not guilty to a series of alleged offences between 1992 and 2009.

Appearing in custody at the Old Bailey, he denied three charges of rapes, one attempted rape, seven indecent assaults, 16 burglaries and two attempted burglaries, involving 18 victims.

Grant, who wore a dark-blue striped suit, shirt and tie, spoke only to confirm his name during the 25-minute hearing.

Grant, a full-time carer for his estranged wife who has multiple sclerosis, was arrested by police in the early hours of November 15 last year.

He was interviewed by Scotland Yard detectives hunting the criminal dubbed the 'Night Stalker'.

The alleged offences took place in Warlingham, Shirley, Beckenham, Bromley, Addiscombe, Orpington and West Dulwich.

The inquiry set up to catch the 'Night Stalker' was named Operation Minstead and opened in 1998.

The attacker forced his way into the homes of pensioners, often disabling phone and electricity lines, before carrying out the assaults, police said.

Grant's trial will take place on March 1 next year at Woolwich Crown Court.

A former minicab driver today denied raping and sexually assaulting a string of elderly women.

He appeared at the Old Bailey to face charges of rape, indecent assault and burglary.

Grant, a full-time carer for his estranged wife Jennifer, who has multiple sclerosis, was held by police in the early hours of November 15 last year.

He was interviewed by a team of Scotland Yard detectives hunting a criminal dubbed the Night Stalker.

Grant is accused of breaking into his victims' homes before subjecting them to sex attacks.

He is charged with 29 offences including three rapes, one attempted rape, seven indecent assaults, 16 burglaries and two attempted burglaries, involving a total of 18 victims.

The alleged offences took place in Warlingham, Shirley, Beckenham, Bromley, Addiscombe, Orpington and West Dulwich between October 1992 and November last year.

The inquiry set up to catch the Night Stalker was named Operation Minstead and opened in 1998.

Mr Justice Bean said the trial would take place on March 1 next year at Woolwich Crown Court. It may take up to six weeks.

The charges include:

October 1992 - Raping a woman at an address in Shirley, Croydon. He is also accused of burglary.
September 1998 - Raping and indecently assaulting a woman in Warlingham, Surrey, and burglary.
June 1999 - Burglary at a home in Beckenham.
June - August 1999 - Attempted burglary at a home in Orpington, Kent.
July 1999 - Indecently assaulting a man and burglary at a home in Coulsdon, Surrey.
July 1999 - Indecently assaulting a woman and burglary at a home in Addiscombe.
July 1999 - raping a woman and burglary at a home in Addiscombe.
August 1999 - indecently assaulting a woman and burglary at a home in Croydon.
August 1999 - Raping and indecently assaulting a woman at a home in Orpington.
October 2002 - Indecently assaulting a woman and burglary at a home in Shirley.
March 2003 - Burglary at a home in West Dulwich.
September 2004 - Burglary at a home in Bromley.
May 2009 - Burglary at a home in Bromley.
June 2009 - Burglary at a home in south Croydon.
August 2009 - Sexual assault and burglary at a home in Thornton Heath.
October 2009 - Burglary at a home in Lewisham.
October 2009 - Burglary at a home in Croydon.
November 2009 - Attempted burglary at a home in Croydon.
