| Post subject: | Frank Lay summed up |
The hypocrisy of the Frank Lay-style attitude and that of the restricted numbers mindset in general is neatly summed up by a thread on the Edinburgh forum. A couple of the Edinburgh black cab circuits strike a deal with the Royal Highland Show for an exclusive rank. Frank is obviously a bit miffed at this and says, of marshalls trying to organise the rank: Quote: Taxi company A employs people to try and stop drivers from taxi company B from going about their business. Of course these people are going to get a mouthfull. They are not there to help the public, they are there to make things difficult for comcab and street car drivers. If you are doing that job, getting a bit of abuse is only to be expected. Sums him up quite nicely, and even those on his side of the restricted numbers issue take issue with his attitude: Quote: The marshalls are ONLY doing what they are TOLD Frank, Rightly or wrong !!! What if your wife/partner worked in a bank, who have caused all this financial sh** we're suffering ? Is she fair game to be cursed at for working as a teller with no say in what the banks do !!! It's not an ideal situation for ALL drivers, but if you feel that strongly about it, go and abuse the directors of fts who made the decision in city &/or crt. Don't agree with abusing a woman............ because you'd criticise others for that So extending Frankie's logic on exclusive rights, drivers excluded by the restricted numbers scenario would be justified in abusing others (including women) involved in or benefitting from the policy because, to paraphrase him: Quote: They are not there to help the public, they are there to make things difficult for [excluded] drivers. If you are doing that job, getting a bit of abuse is only to be expected. But, of course, Frankie wouldn't say that, because he's a grade-A hypocrite, and a nasty one to boot, and exclusive rights are clearly OK when it suits. Indeed, the argument he uses against exclusive rights at the RHS seem suspiciously like the ones used by myself and others who argue against the exclusive rights of restricted numbers: Quote: There are three problems with this.
1) It offers a poorer service to passengers. 2) They are picking a fight with their black cab collegues rather than phc. 3) The poorer service allows phc to do more business there. Well said, Frank, but the problem is that these arguments are only valid when it suits your own narrow interest and lines your own pockets. But, of course, the fundamental difference is that the RHS gig was a commercial transaction involving private property, whereas the restricted numbers scenario is the product of a public authority supposedly operating on democratic grounds and which should surely be expected to put the interests of drivers generally and the public before those of a section of the trade. |

And if you check out all the threads there, you will find NO-ONE supporting the situation at the RHS, not even the guys who can access the rank. |

![]() Oh no, it's reappeared again
So your total lack of a proper response to the central issue means that I'm right Frank? |

The devil is always in the detail Frank. I can assure you that, Caledonian Cabby, is not Jim. Jim, is erudite, in his political attacks on, authority and its supporters. I play mind games. Caledonian Cabby, is making an exercise out of taking your opinion apart on the detail. To Jim, it's a crusade. To me, it's a game. To Caledonian Cabby, it's an exercise or a hobby, maybe even a degree of some sort. What a fecking nightmare.
Carry on Frank. ..
