Kirkby cabbie to swim Mersey for music project cash Jun 26 2010 A music mad cabbie will swim the Mersey to raise some notes for charity. Mike Upton, 44, from Kirkby wants to use the cash to set up a Music Resource Centre. The project will mean youngsters will have a base to write, mix and record their own tracks. The team will also go into schools to teach children about the music biz. Mike, of Hartwood Road, said: “The idea is to give kids something positive to do. "Rather than stand around on the streets, they can come in here and learn about music and record a song. “I was in bands myself, so know how expensive studio time is. Either way I hope he's a strong swimmer cos the tide is somewhat forceful in nature. Good luck to him
