The reason the cops are pushing this, aided and abetted by MacAskill, is merely because they can't control it. And the system likes to control.
I don't have thugs coming to me asking for protection money. I doubt they would ever be bothered. I warrant there has been no public complaint about any of these alleged "crime lords". The public isn't bothered. It's only political. And the concern of a political process that doesn't care about the ordinary working man, which sees him as just canon fodder to be controlled.
Perhaps there is an argument that says that if the "crime lords" are brought into the business community they would recognise the potential to make more profit by being legit rather than not.
I can' think of a single cop who has helped me. So why should I concern myself with their pretendy public service here?
Careers were made by the wholly disproportionate treatment of the Krays. But what was achieved? Do I care that some towrag who probably deserved killing got killed? All that was lost was an instrument of control. Nothing else changed. No crime reduction. Just more of the same, the faces were different.
But some cops got promoted.

Anyway, after the Megrahi debacle, MacAskill is gonna be history. He is a scumbag. The SNP are fascist scumbags.
