Taxi driver robbed in his vehicle in Ellesmere Port
Jul 7 2010 by Laurie Stocks-Moore, Ellesmere Port Pioneer

A TAXI driver was subjected to a terrifying ordeal when two passengers demanded money.

Detectives in Ellesmere Port are appealing for information after the taxi driver was robbed at 1.10am on July 4.

The victim picked up a woman and two men from Southwick Court, Rockferry, Wirral.

He travelled down the M53, dropping the woman off at the Horse and Jockey Pub, near to the Boat Museum before continuing with the two men to The Boulevard on Sutton Way.

After stopping, one of the men grabbed him from behind, choking him.

Both men then threatened him and demanded money.

Police spokesman Jason Murray said: “The taxi driver described feeling a sharp metallic object being held to his neck.

“He handed over his takings, and both offenders have then ran away behind the Boulevard and out of sight.”

It is understood the robbers escaped with his whole night's takings.

Anyone with information should contact DC Nathan Walkowiak at Ellesmere Port CID on 0845 458 0000, or alternatively Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

This is the first of me hearing of this case. Terrible story.

As you're local, toots - you may be familiar with Sutton Way (and what a hole it is!). My old man done a job down there once and the fare done a runner. A local PH driver saw him sitting there and stopped to tell him that if a fare ever gets out of the car to "go in for the money" on Sutton Way, you can bet your bottom dollar you'll never see them again. An area to avoid!

If you're still working where you said you were going to then it's one of your own. They did a collection for him over the weekend to help out with the financial loss. Having said that I'm not so sure he'll stay in the trade tbh

With regard to Ellesmere Port and Sutton Way I've never had a problem tbh and fingers crossed I never will
