Scots petrol prices ‘to hit £6 a gallon’

The SNP claim further fuel price rises would damage economic recovery
Damien Henderson, Transport Correspondent

Drivers face paying £6 for a gallon of petrol at Scottish forecourts by January.

A toxic combination of rising oil costs and increasing Government taxes will result in the average cost of a litre of unleaded petrol in the UK leaping 8% by the beginning of next year – from 116.0p to as much as 125.9p.

With some parts of the Highlands already charging 126.9p, the hike would take the cost to more than 136.0p a litre – or £6.23 a gallon by the new year.

The Retail Motor Industry Independent Petrol Retailers Association (RMI Petrol), which represents one-third of the UK’s 9000 forecourt sites, claimed a rebound in the global price of crude oil will add 4p a litre to the cost of diesel and petrol within the next three weeks.

However, the overall hike is being driven by increases in fuel duty and VAT, which already account for more than 74p of the 116.0p paid for an average litre of petrol.

I wonder if this will change the minds of some taxi drivers in Dundee who do not want a fares increase :?:

The way i see is if we do not except a rise we will be taken a cut in earnings  l

Here we go, the Tartan turd flingers hollering about things we already know, ......yes its difficult, its just as difficult for our English, Welsh and Irish neighbours also......If anyone is likely to sink Scotlands economic ship its the SNP themselves.
