Avoid being taken for a ride with new car signs September 13, 2010 Plans to introduce door signs that will help customers to better identify licensed private hire taxis will be presented to the council’s licensing committee on Wednesday, 15th September. The last taxi survey of 2007 showed that customers wanted more reassurance that the private hire vehicles that they were travelling in were safe. Initial discussions included the suggestion of a complete re-spray of the vehicles, like New York’s iconic yellow taxis. Following consultation with the city’s private hire trade, a sign for the rear passenger doors has been proposed instead. Designed by Loughborough based company Mogo UK, the signs are made from cut vinyl in yellow and black, which makes them suitable for visually impaired passengers. The signs are forgery proof and display the council logo and the driver’s licence number. The self adhesive signs carry a hologram, and once they are attached they can only be removed by heat, which would ruin them. Once a private hire car has been licensed, the door sign will stay with the car. The proposed introduction of the signs will begin on 1st October, and will be issued with each new licence. Do you realy think that by putting 2 stickers on the sides of a car will stop the wife from doing the shopping in Tesco? is it immediatly obvious that the driver of a vehicle with private hire signs, or for that matter a hackney top sign, is licensed to drive that vehicle? Who is going to report these people to the council? You can make up as many conditions as you like but you still have to catch people. |

The two front doors are the PH Operator's stickers that have to be a certain size & are removable & the two rear doors hjave council sticker, with holograms, that can only be removed by a heat. Now let's see them take the back ones off. Also, they are only allowed one set of council stickers. If they have to be replaced the proprietor will have to pay for them. |

I don't think the intention of the sticker is to catch a unlicensed spouse using the vehicle. Its intention is to provide the public with a instantly recognisable mark to assure them the vehicle is legitimate. and good on them I say |
