Convicted rapist still allowed to drive a Bradford taxi

A BRADFORD taxi driver with a conviction for rape was revealed today to be still driving his cab around the city, after council chiefs failed in an attempt to revoke his licence. Bradford Council admitted it had been unable to revoke the licence after the driver appealed in court to get it back.

The case came to light after a member of the public made a freedom of information request to the council, which also disclosed that 31 other Bradford cabies have serious criminal convictions for violence. Of the 3,006 drivers in the Bradford district, 29 have been convicted for actual bodily harm, two for grievous bodily harm and one for rape.

A Bradford Council spokesman said: "The Council refused to renew the licence for the one driver with a rape conviction, but he successfully appealed in court." Last month one cab driver, Mohammed Ahmed, was jailed for ten years for twice raping a young woman he had picked up illegally outside Bradford University.

Another Bradford driver was jailed for nine years in June for raping a teenage passenger who got into his private hire cab in Leeds.

There's drivers across the UK who have got 6 points and have lost their badges then there's this pervert who rapes a woman and is still allowed to drive.

Obviously the full story has not been posted above. How long ago did this rape happen? It may have been 40 years ago and he may not have committed any crime since.

Under anti discriminatory law, it may prove difficult not to employ someone who the law says is fit and proper to do the job.

Doctors, dentists, chemists or nurses
Accountants
Veterinarians
Managers of unit trusts
Anyone applying to work as an officer of the Crown
Employees of the RSPCA or SSPCA whose duties extend to the humane killing of animals
Any employment or other work normally carried out in bail hostels or probation hostels
Certain officials and employees from government and public authorities with access to sensitive or personal information or official databases about children or vulnerable adults
Any office or employment concerned with providing health services which would normally enable access to recipients of those health services

Anyone who as part of their occupation occupies premises where explosives are kept under a police certificate

This chap has not witheld information. He has been granted a badge. Therfore he is now deemed to be safe to work with children and vulnerable adults and if he is the best candidate for a job and he is refused employment he may well take the prospective employer to court on the grounds of discrimination.

Are you telling me that a former sex offender should be allowed to work with children because he has not re offended in years.I do not think it is unreasonable or discriminatory to stop sex offenders ever working with children in any way and i think the law would back this up.

And what you have to remember a licence Authority only have to be reasonable in there decision.
