I've just seen this article on yahoo http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20100927/tod ... 0a197.html

So when you next get someone who dosen't want to pay the full fare don't bother with the old bill because reporting it is apparently "inappropriate"

I'm going shopping later but only going to offer them half the total let's see if they ring 999?

The 999 number is for emergency use only, you know life or death situations, RTAs, that sort of thing. To use the 999 number for someone who has not paid the full fare is an inappropriate use of this number. You should ring the local number.

fair point and I know that I wouldn't call 999 but don't you think that this artical makes it sound like non payment is not a serious act, like finding a cat in your kitchen? It's only a taxi driver being robbed so it doesn't matter!

A while back i had a call from a local Policeman wanting to speak to me about the £75 worth of food i had ordered from the local kebab shop the previous day and not collected. After a small amount of ranting a quick view of my online phone bill and a free pizza it was discovered that they had given the police the wrong number for the phone order and that it was not me making the bogus orders, i told the copper that if i called them everytime i had a no show call they would be very busy, he said if i reported a wind up booking and gave them the number they HAVE TO investgate it. Yea Right i dont think i will bother.

The police were only to happy to assist me when I was having difficulty getting payment. Having said that they where parked in front of me so they didn't have far to go when I pulled along side of them and explained the situation. I got my money

I think the level of response/service we receive from the police depends of how busy they are.

If they are mobbed we are at the bottom of the pile unless we are being assaulted.

If they are scratching their bums doing nothing, we are right at the top.
