Taxi! How much to go wrong way up fast lane of the M6 [Toll]?

Monday, 27 September 2010

A cabbie gives motorway drivers a fare old scare - as he heads the WRONG WAY down the fast lane.

Cars swerved to avoid taxi nut Robert Thompson, 59, during three miles of terror.

Cops alerted by CCTV on the M6 Toll near Sutton Coldfield raced to intercept his black cab.

The rookie taxi driver's lawyer told JPs: "He took a wrong turning. This mistake was made because he was inexperienced.

"Luckily his passengers had just been dropped off."

The court in Cannock, Staffs, heard it was a "miracle" no one crashed as Thompson headed north on the southbound side between junctions four and three.

Prosecutor Giles Rowden said police feared "a catastrophic situation." Thompson, of Nuneaton, was nicked after he got off the M-way. He admitted dangerous driving.

He was slapped with an 18-month driving ban, ordered to retake his test, given a 12-month supervision order and told to pay £85 costs.

Why can't drivers just read signs we have a slip road near us which allows southbound traffic to exit but there is no corresponding entry slip southbound we get about a dozen vehicles a month going up there only realising when they get to the top or hit an exiting lorry ! there are full sized no entry signs at the bottom !
