Road ban for Winchmore Hill cab driver over disabled parking badge scam

2:50pm Wednesday 13th October 2010

A Winchmore Hill mini-cab driver has received a three-month driving ban after admitting to using a disabled parking badge for free parking.

Murat Hasa, of Green Lanes, pleaded guilty to using a photocopy of a stolen Blue Badge on his vehicle while parked in Devonshire Road, Palmers Green last year.

He has been ordered to pay a fine totalling £565 and has been disqualified for driving for the next three months.

Councillor Chris Bond, cabinet member for the environment, said: "Blue Badges are for disabled drivers so they have easy access to help them live more independently.

"They are not there for able bodied me-me-me motorists who want to make their lives easier."

Hasa was bought to court as part of Enfield Council’s ongoing war on Blue Badge fraud.

Bowes Park resident Rowya Karimpour, of Brunswick Park Road, also pleaded guilty to uing a badge that did not belong to her.

She was ordered to pay a total of £695 in fines and costs.

And when they do park at these supermarkets & off the public road, take a very close look at how the blue badge is displayed!!!

The ones that are scamming, usually use an out of date blue badge from a relative or friend who has conveniently lost it or destroyed it because it was out of date (you're supposed to surrender the old one when being issued with a new one) when renewing his / her own legitimate facility. When these scammers display the 'fake' blue badge they conveniently cover the expiry date with the cardboard clock / time indicator which was originally supplied with the now expired blue badge.

It's a major scam in supermarket car parks & off road parking & most supermarket personnel done really know what they are looking for & as long as a blue badge is showing, they ain't going to challenge the car driver.
