THE cost of a running a cab is going up in part of Worcestershire.

Wychavon District Council looks set to increase the annual cost of operating a Hackney carriage by 6.5 per cent to £160.

The fee is slightly lower for a private hire vehicle with a planned increase to £144, with the rise proposed from April 2011.

Running a cab firm is also set to become more expensive, with an operator's licence rising from £70 to £75 with councillors expected to rubber stamp the increases on Wednesday, October 20.

Wychavon’s prices stack up favourably against neighbouring Worcester City Council where it costs £399 annually for cabs to get an operating licence. This fee has been fixed for two years.

In Malvern Hills, operators pay £272.50 a year.
