Council under fire for data sharing

12:00pm Friday 15th October 2010

A 70-year-old has hit out at a council for sharing people’s personal data.

Braintree Council has announced it will be taking part in the National Fraud Initiative 2010.

In doing this, the council will be sharing information provided by concessionary fare bus pass holders, resident parking permit holders and Hackney Carriage and private hire vehicle drivers.

The information will be shared with other public bodies responsible for auditing or administering public funds.

Data sharing was criticised by Gordon Helm of Broad Road, Braintree, who refuses to get a bus pass because of it.

He said: “You don’t know who will look at your details."

For those in the trade that are claiming, yet working, I want the world to be looking at their details.

I agree with Sussex. I also want this inititive to be rolled out in Manchester.

Interestingly Manchester still recieves a lot of funding for people to take the NVQ on a voluntary basis. Young men of all nationalities, Hackney and PH drivers turn up to enroll. Once they notice the requirement to include thier National Insurance number on the application for funding they disappear, never to be seen again. Why on earth would they do that ?
