CAB COMPANY'S WARNING TO PASSENGERS

Friday, October 15, 2010, 07:00

A local taxi company has warned passengers against giving out their card details.

James Hart, proprietor of Lincoln Black Cabs, contacted the Echo after it was revealed Lincolnshire Police were investigating an online taxi firm for fraud offences.

The firm, which cannot be named for legal reasons, was believed to be masquerading as a travel broker – unknown to local taxi companies and their customers.

Mr Hart said: "I'm surprised this broker system was operating in the city and we knew nothing about it.

"Whoever this company is, Lincoln Black Cabs never had any agreement to let anyone operate a booking system on our behalf.

"You can phone direct to book a taxi – and you definitely shouldn't have to use a broker.

"I would advise passengers never to give their card details out over the phone and to operate through a legitimate service."
