Three Walsall taxi drivers up before town magistrates THREE Midland taxi drivers were hauled before the courts for offences including carrying an unsecured wheelchair passenger, driving without insurance and illegally plying for hire. Akhlaq Ahmed, aged 42, Khalid Hussain, 45, and Mohammed Akhtar Shad, 46, were all before Walsall magistrates on Monday. Ahmed, of Milton Street, Walsall, was convicted of using a taxi that carried a passenger in a wheelchair which was not secured. He initially pleaded not guilty, but changed his plea to guilty during the trial. He was given three penalty points, fined £275 and ordered to pay £900 costs. He also has to pay a £15 victim surcharge. Hussain, of Essex Street, Walsall, was convicted of two offences of plying for hire for which he was fined £100 for each offence. He was also convicted of two offences of using a vehicle without insurance for which he was fined £150 each. He was disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay £300 costs and a £15 victim surcharge. He was caught in an enforcement operation in the town centre twice on the same night. Shad, of King Street, Walsall, was convicted of plying for hire and fined £200. He was also convicted of using a vehicle with no insurance and was fined £300. His got six penalty points and was ordered to pay £300 costs, plus a £15 victim surcharge. He was also caught in an enforcement operation in the town centre in May 2010. |

Seems a shame...these guys were only trying to be as Accomodating to their clients as they Could be.....It may be in their local Custom to be so helpful.

I wasn't aware that not strapping a wheelchair in was a penalty point offence or is it because the wheelchair passenger was effectively riding without a seatbelt ? |
