Teenage girl detained for taxi driver attacks

A TEENAGE girl who robbed two taxi drivers in Northampton on successive days walked into a police station and confessed, a court heard. Police officers were looking for a man in connection with the robberies when Sky Coombes, 18, voluntarily gave herself up.

Northampton Crown Court heard she walked into Campbell Square Police Station and confessed two weeks after the knife-point robberies of taxi drivers were featured on the front page of the Chronicle & Echo.

William Falshaw, prosecuting, said Coombes and a male accomplice ordered a taxi on August 30 and asked to be taken to the BP Garage in Abington Avenue. En route, the male passenger grabbed the driver by the throat and they stole £150 cash and his keys.

He said: “The next robbery took place the very next day when a call was made and a taxi driver from Sky Cars picked up three females at 9.45pm.” The driver was again asked to take them to the BP Garage in Abington Grove.

As he was driving along Ashburnham Road, Coombes put a bread knife to his throat and tried to rob him but he fought back. The three passengers ran off while the driver was left with a one-inch cut to the side of his neck. Coombes, of Hunter Street, Northampton, admitted robbery, possessing a knife and assault with intent to rob.

Sentencing her to 30 month’s detention, Judge Richard Bray said: “I accept you were not the instigator of the first offence but emboldened by that, you played the leading part on the second offence the next day.”

Rebecca Dart mitigating, said: “It’s fair to say she was not wanted by the police and I believe they were looking for a male. “She took herself down to Campbell Square and said she wanted to speak about the two robberies and gave police more information than they had.

“She did not ask for bail because she knew what she had done was very, very wrong. “Why did she hand herself in when she was not wanted? The simple reason is because her conscience got the better for her. She cannot get over the fact she acted in such a terrible manner and cannot believe what she has done.”

No, she didn't ask for bail because the slag knew it would be refused.

So they're still searching for the others.

It would appear so.

Clearly her remorse has effected her memory.
