A TAXI driver who racked up 12 penalty points on his driving licence in just 17 months faces losing his right to be a cabby in Plymouth.

Kenneth Wilfred Elliott escaped a driving ban from the courts after he pleaded it would cost him his job and cause exceptional hardship.

It was not until Mr Elliott renewed his hackney carriage licence in September the council discovered endorsements which had not been reported to them, as is required, members of the city's licensing committee will hear tomorrow.

Mr Elliott was a private hire driver until last September, when he was granted a hackney carriage licence.

At that time he already had three penalty points for speeding, the committee will hear.

In October last year he was fined in his absence for failing to produce his driving licence for the police.

In February this year he was convicted in his absence of having a bald tyre, fined and given three more penalty points.

This May he was fined £100 for speeding and earned another three points on his driving licence.

In July, Mr Elliott was convicted of using a hand-held mobile phone or device while driving.

He was fined £80, with another three penalty points.

Councillors have the power to suspend, revoke or refuse to renew the Hackney carriage licence.

This chap has managed to get himself 12 points in 9 months, not 17 months, according to the timescale in the report. He didn't even show up in court for some of the hearings. And he wants to continue to drive taxis!!!

Change "may" to "did" in the title of the thread.
