SOLDIER IS BANNED FROM A CAB FOR WEARING UNIFORM

11/11/2010

EXCLUSIVE: Snub taints sister's wedding day

An RAF engineer proudly wore his uniform at his sister's wedding - but the big day was marred by an outraged cabbie.

The taxi driver told the senior aircraftsman "no way - no uniform" and refused to let the 24-year-old in the black cab. He had just attended the nuptials with his family and they were stunned when the driver refused to take them to the reception.

The soldier's dad, who is a lecturer, said: "His mum hailed the cab and it pulled up outside the town hall.

"She opened the door and he joined her. But when the taxi driver saw my son, he just pointed at him and said, 'No way, no way, not in my taxi - no uniform'.

"She demanded an explanation but my son turned his back and said 'leave it, Mum'. The driver just drove off.

"We reported it to the council because I feel sick about it. He was a licensed driver and should not be allowed to behave in this way. I think the taxi driver's attitude was absolutely disgusting.

"We carried on so that we didn't ruin a lovely day but inside I was seething."

The soldier's twin brother and the groom are in the armed forces too and were also in their uniforms at the wedding in Sheffield, South Yorks.

Sheffield Taxi Trade Association branded the driver a "disgrace".

The city council says it will investigate if it receives a formal complaint

This driver is a disgrace. It would have been a clean uniform at a wedding I'm sure, so there's no need for this. It's idiots like this that don't held our trade one bit.

I presume he won't be marking the two minutes' silence either. Knob!
