Credit crunch, recession, mergers, bankruptcies, spiralling unemployment, court cases, I'm starting to think everyone is losing it.
What's it like in your neck of the woods? |

Do you really want to know or do you just want people to comment so you can insult them again? |

Personally I'm doing ok but I do know it's quiet on the taxis and ph here at the minute with a few drivers giving it up for more benficial past times. We haven't had any large redundancies yet either but the council have been told to cut staff and a local meat factory has put staff on 90 days notice. Not sure if that's to close it down or to issue them with a less favourable contract when the factory is 'bought out' and the name changed, if you get my drift. Other than that things are pretty normal |

Other than that things are pretty normal Up here in Edinburgh, it's turning into a lunatic asylum. Money is down, although we are still making a living, just. The trade is pulling itself a part at seams. The PH are running amok, and the council doesn't seem to know if they need a [edited by admin] or a haircut. Other than that everything is turning to shi*, stroll on next year, it's sure to get worse

Quote: PH are running amok,
Without getting into a huge debate and this is only a comment. It is to be expected that PH will run amok when they continue to grow and grow. This growth is not stopped when taxis are derestricted. PH operators are the equivilent to your taxi barons. You should be more optimistic anyway next year maybe better. Perhaps you should watch the 'Secret'

Other than that everything is turning to shi*, stroll on next year, it's sure to get worseYes money's down everywhere but in Edinburgh we are still making a reasonable living maybe working a few more hours. Radio in cab at this time helps. So does double shifting a motor! (We'd all lose out if they put more cabs on and diluted the shrinking workload even more.) Service would suffer badly then. The trade is not pulling itself apart; it's only you and your mate who are trying unsuccessfully to do that! PH need better regulating as they are ignoring the law regarding picking up and using bus lanes both illegally. Proves they are toiling financially, though. Council are acting no differently to usual. So no change there, either. |

What's it like in your neck of the woods? Not bad, could be a lot worse IMO. |

hours up, money down the exact reverse of what I'm looking for
TBF there's mitigating circumstances, insofar there's too many taxis for the (shrinking) customer base, caused mainly by a split in the (then) other company in the town. If we had remained at 2 firms of approx 25 cars, then all would be near o.k. The fact that there's now 3 with a total fleet of 65+ (inc. independents), makes things difficult to say the least |
