CITY councillors have to decide if a website selling sex aids can advertise on Carlisle taxis.

Local businessmen Frank Sutherland and David Graham set up www.sexualhealing.co to supply sex aids and invite bookings for Ann Summers-style parties, where same-sex groups can buy their products.

They applied to advertise on a taxi but fell foul of the city council’s guidelines.

These prohibit adverts with “political, ethnic, religious, sexual or controversial texts” and those “likely to offend public taste”.

Mr Graham, 50, of Kingstown Road, cannot understand what the fuss is about. He said: “We don’t think it’s offensive. It’s not as if we’re asking to put a picture of a sex aid on the side of a cab.”

“The last thing we want to do is offend anybody.”

The two men had been due to put their case to the council’s regulatory panel yesterday.

But Mr Sutherland has been taken ill so the committee will consider the application on January 5 instead.

We've got a cab here that advertises the same nature of things. I think perhaps because the company is called sexual healing the council don't like the idea of advertising the 'sexual' bit. The cab we have here advertises 'Scandals' which our council obviously think is ok, but, they should they've had their fair share of them

The downside (we had something similar here) women passengers do not like it, and it can be detrimental to actual trade.

I can just see CC's advertising on the car. Book your parties here. "Try before you buy".

They don't seem bothered here. Again I'm wondering if it depends on the wording of the advertising. I think the girls here would see the funny side of getting into a cab for 'sexual healing' it'd be kinda of getting into a happy tardis
