Wirral taxi driver allegedly found with two kilos of cocaine near to Mersey tunnel



A TAXI driver was stopped on the edge of a Mersey tunnel, allegedly with two kilos of cocaine in his cab.

Police pulled over a red Peugeot 406 close to the Birkenhead entrance to the Queensway Tunnel at around 3pm on Tuesday.

The driver and front seat passenger were said to be acting nervously and when officers searched the car, it is alleged they found two blocks of white powder in a carrier bag.

The cocaine was said to have a street value of more than £60,000.

Driver David Moss, 33, and unemployed passenger Wayne Hughes, 37, both of Royden Road, Upton, Wirral, were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

They were questioned at a police station before being charged.

Both appeared at Wirral magistrates’ court last week, where they pleaded not guilty to the allegation.

They were bailed and will next appear at court on April 29.

That's the 2nd one I've heard of this week on the Wirral. I know one of them still has his license but I guess intent to supply class 'A' drugs isn't a danger to the public
