Post subject:  flashing your headlights to warn of a speedtrap
i dont know about the rest of the country but cabbies in dundee always flash oncoming taxis to warn of speedtraps,we also have a habit of flashing our lights as acknowledgement of our mates who drive past,surely the latter would make it difficult for the police to get a conviction on any cabbie?

Seems the OB would rather catch folk breaking the law than not have them break it.

Thought their first duty was to prevent crime or in this case speeding

He would have got off with a warning if he had kept quiet, but he upset the PC by being an idiot and arguing so the copper then went on to book him.

So the real reason he got done was talking when he should have been listening.

So preventing someone breaking the law is illegal now is it?
After all, he was attempting to prevent a criminal act being committed.
So why was he stopped in the first place?
Could it be that he was interfering in the process of fleecing the motorist? :shock:

We do it here but I know it can cause confusion as well cos some vehicles flash to let you know they're there when others flash to let you pull out

Toots you could always dangle your pink furry handcuffs from your rear view mirror and point at them :lol:

So most of the time its OK for the police to hide when doing speed checks like the picture of the 2 in the bushes on another thread on here

Truckers will give a big "thumbs down" to approaching truckers, maybe after 1 flash

I once got followed home 2 miles by cops when id used my CB after passing thru a speed trap years ago and got told off

to be fair sometimes it can cause a problem I remmember an incident about 15 years ago when an approaching lorry flashed me so I backed off the speed he then continued to flash at me waving furiously at me I thought there must be a probl;em with my car and ended up stopping couldn't find a problem and no sign of a speed trap just a police car parked up outside someones house further down the road.

I was not amused !

Some drivers take it too far and then it becomes a danger to other road users !

IMO the Police were wrong to charge him, he was warning people that they were going into a high accident area. After all the police only put the cameras in high accident areas don't they?? :roll: :roll:
