Coventry taxi drivers strike over spaces

7 January 2011

Dozens of black taxi drivers have been protesting in Coventry over a lack of spaces at ranks in the city.

Coventry Taxi Association said the city council would not provide more spaces and police were issuing tickets when the hackney carriages were forced to park on yellow lines.

Drivers said many of them were prepared to stay out on strike until Monday.

Unions, the council and West Midlands Police were in negotiations to try and resolve the issue.
