A teenager has admitted shining a laser pen into the eyes of a Dumfries taxi driver leaving him temporarily blinded.
Rory Henderson, 18, shone the light from another car in the town's Glasgow Street in September last year.
Taxi driver Keith Wilson had to pull over but got his passenger to note the registration plate of the vehicle.
Sheriff George Jamieson described the incident as both "stupid" and "very dangerous" and fined Henderson £330 for the offence.
The teenager, of Burnside of Dardarroch Farm, Dumfries, admitted endangering the taxi driver, his passenger and other road users.
Depute fiscal Caroline Priestley told the court that the effect of the light was so severe that Mr Wilson's vision was affected for about an hour.
He had to pull in and call another taxi to take his passenger on to her destination.
The passenger had noted the other car registration and saw Henderson in the passenger seat laughing.
Henderson was later traced by police.
Solicitor Gavin Orr said Henderson, a farm worker, now realised the stupidity of the offence.
The sheriff said he would have fined him £500 but for his early guilty plea
