Thursday I worked 6 hours.

It was sh*te.

I made £75.

£40 rental.

£15 diesel.

I worked for £15.

Less rhan £2.50 an hour. Less than half the minimum wage.

Now, tell me why I shouldn't have unfettered access to the tools of my trade.

Why should I have to be exploited like this?

As a jockey renting a cab, after rental and fuel driving a taxi could be the worst paid job in Edinburgh, Certainly once you take into account the fact that there are no benefits (Sick pay, holiday pay, pension or any security) it must be the worst job in the city.

Having your own cab still pays, but as a jockey forget it.

But if it is like last year it could pick up a bit by the end of July, but even then it wont be enough ."

I had just posted that on the Edinburgh site, but it seems to fit this thread too. Other places may be different but that is how it is in Edinburgh.

And you want to open the gates to more plates??? You sir are a f u c k i n drip. More plates = less money for the drivers, less money means cabs being sent back to the finance houses, repairs not being carried out.

Do you drive round with your eyes closed all day?? If there are Taxis sat about waiting for work what's it going to be like with an extra 100+ plates? HP repayments still have to be paid, insurance, repairs and all the other add ons.

They say a person is worth what they earn, I wouldn't say your worth £2.50 an hour in fact £1.00 an hour sounds about right.

Try working a full shift then

You compain theres not enough taxis an wee lassies are getting assaulted yet you don't serve the publics need

Btw in a 9 hour shift on thursday night I did £180 finished at 4 and didnt even get an airport job of the radio

Mayb if you weren't so stubborn and joined a radio circuit you make more money. I enjoy getting a job to mortonhall from Waverley then getting a job off the radio from alnwickhill back into town but then you don't want to be told what work to do!

FFS I made more than that with my 2 runs from Edinburgh Waverly Bridge, back to Gala then ran about like a fiddlers elbo after I returned with my second run.
But I have never seen as many Hacks at the Waverly bridge rank as there was :shock:
Worked for 8 hours took 196 fuel 15 servicing 10 wage 171
And yes we have an over supply of cabs but I discount and get the work
Just out of interest how much do you charge from Edinburgh to Gala??
We charge £40 to 45

Why do I get the feeling that I'm being held back by cretins like you.

I'll explain it again. Try to pay attention.

1. I am being exploited.

2. More plates doesn't mean less money for drivers. It means more. For good cabbies. Taxis don't pick up passengers, drivers do. More taxis, same number of drivers means effectively no change. Get it?

3. Cars going back to finance house? Who cares. You don't give a toss about me, or that I'm being exploited, why should I give a toss about owners working a flawed business model, which they can only do because the council corrupts the market by restricting it. Their failure, their problem.

4. Why should the taxi market operate any diferently to any other market sector? Why should it be "protected" to benefit owners. What part of the Aberdeen CSD's de-restriction statement did you not understand?

5. De-restricting will bring me more cash for me and my family. And because I won't be sitting on a taxi rank 12 deep on a quiet night I'll work the busy periods and provide the service when customers want it. That'll give me a better quality family life.

No Midlander, can I suggest you grow up and put your brain in gear before opening you gob.

This trade is being held back by children like you who are too immature to see the reality that de-restriction is coming. Get used to it.

I'll say it again, grow up FFs.

FFS!!!

I do empathise & I have had days like that too.

But your cab rent is bordering on the criminal in these austere times.

In Brum an avereage cab rental at the moment is about £100 a week for a 24 hour cab. That's not a new one of course, which you might get for £140 on the same deal. But who has new cabs to rent in these times.

Hope it gets better for you quickly.

Brum is right you are paying far to much rental, instead of filling page after page on here with your drivel you should be forcing owners to drop the rentals, dont get me wrong I can understand your frustration at not being able to get your own plate but in the meantime why not get all other renters to pull the plug and see how fast the owners sit up

Why is it that people keep saying 'more taxis' same number of drivers? If there are 2 drivers on each taxi at the moment and then it was derestricted and all those drivers got their own vehicle, what do you think the people who rent out vehicles will do with them? Do you think they will all suddenly start working them? Perhaps you think they will all sell them off cheaply. They may even reduce the rental to get drivers in them hence more taxis and more drivers. I do think the rental is on the high side, but, if the drivers stuck together and refused to pay such high rents then perhaps they could be reduced.

How do you know that derestriction will bring you more cash? It may well do because you will be able to work more hours because you'll have a taxi to drive 24/7, but, I think if you get what you want you'll need a taxi to driver 24/7.
