Top cop: gangsters are muscling in on Scottish nurseries to launder cash Gangsters are using NURSERIES to launder drug money after a police crackdown on dodgy taxi companies and security firms. Crime lords have been forced to branch out into other businesses because the cops have started quietly warning customers off their traditional "front" companies. And police say daycare centres for toddlers are among the firms where criminal cash is now being "washed". Strathclyde assistant chief constable George Hamilton told Police Review magazine yesterday: "As you put the squeeze on parts of the service sector, like private security, these people move into other areas." And a police source said: "We've had firms closing and pretty much opening the next day, with the same people behind them. "But those people now seemingly run a nursery or a gardening company." Officers seized financial paperwork from a nursery in Motherwell, Lanarkshire, last year. And weeks later, detectives said they were investigating as many as a dozen nurseries in the west of Scotland with suspected gangland links. Crooks launder money through nurseries by creating fictitious "ghost children" and claiming that their parents pay in cash. Gangsters' wives and girlfriends are installed as bosses of the nurseries because they don't have criminal records. Hamilton says police have starved Scotland's crime gangs of £27million in 15 months by tipping off the customers of "front" companies that they are doing business with crooks. The Record's source said the tactic had been a great success. He added: "It leads to contracts being quietly torn up, which cuts off major funding to the gangs." http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/ |

There's gangsters all over the PH and Taxi trade in Scotland. They move them out of one area they'll move into another. Anywhere they can launder dirty money you'll find it's gangster run. |
