Just after a bit of local knowledge, I am driving up to Edinburgh on monday (My daughter has an interview at Edinburgh Uni 9.30am) I will be driving in via the A702 and wondered where the best place to park would be to give me easy access to a) The Uni and b) The City Centre so I can have a look around whilst I am there. Also what is the traffic like getting into the uni area at that time, She really doesn`t want to be late !! Thanks. |

Traffic at that time of the morning is "murder" The A702 brings you in at Fairmilehead. Free parking everywhere. Park anywhere, and call 01312292468. Edinburgh's finest, will then take you wherever you want. City centre aprox a tenner depending on traffic. |

There are 2 car parks in lauriston place, number 4 and 6 on bing maps I would come up the A7 from Carlisle and after the Sheriffhall roundabout use the park and ride about a quarter of a mile from it, get a bus to Toll Cross as the college is just on the corner |

Just go the A702 as planned and stay on it all the way into Edinburgh do not turn off until you pass the kings theatre then next lights bear to the right at the fork junction(tollcross),art college 200 yards up on the left hand side after the travel inn and novo hotel. As for parking use one of the car parks nearby as the time you fart around with bus fares for 2 at the park and ride you won't pay much more. Give yourself 2 hours from Carlisle at that time should be plenty. |

Thanks for all the info...... I was hoping there would be a carpark close to our destination as my daughter will have a large portfolio which is quite awkward to lug around on buses etc. Also it will need to go back in the car after her interview whilst we have a look around so the car needs to be pretty close by. |

Why don't you go the night before and book yourself into a cheap Travelodge? Then you can spend a pleasant evening giving Edinburgh the once over, and have no pressure about being late at the Uni. |

After a bit of thought I have decided to do exactly this, have managed to get a great late deal on a B&B in Pilrig St which is about 2.5 miles away. So once again thanks for all the info. |

Castle Terrace car park is only a short walk from the college of art and if you come right up the A7 too the Sherriff hall roundabout and follow signs for the Hospital A68 (A7) head for the old town, old dalkeith road-dalkieth road, st leonards street, pleasance and at the bottom of the hill turning left into the cowgate and head through the grassmarket turning right at the top (hill) of the west port on to Lady Lawson Street, t-junction at the bottom take a right then left you are now at the castle terrace carpark, walking back up Lady lawson street over the cross roads the college of art entrance is on the left, good luck |

We are just about to leave now and hopefully I will have some time later to take some pictures of the castle in the dark tonight. I assume it is lit up at night. |
