anyone know the going rate to lease public hire plates with glasgow airport license and also what the going rate is to buy one please???

Leasing someone else's plate for your own motor is illegal.
So is buying and selling them.

How is that illigal?
Say if I want to become a hackney driver in a restricted L.A how do I get a plate if they are restricted, I'm going to have to purchase of another owner or lease one ain't i.

The laws in Scotland are different from England and Wales.

Oh I didn't know that but even in england people say it is illigal but how its a goodwill business
If it was illigal there wouldn't be council Plate value databases,
So if I was in scotland an wanted a hackney in a restricted area how would I get one instead of buying from a egsisting owner?
Sussex mate do you taxi or private hire?

1 You wait until the number of taxi plates falls below the restricted level and you apply.

2 You wait until demand is established in a survey and you apply.

3 You buy a limited company or the like which has a corporate plate in it's name.

4 You apply anyway and hope that the council screw up the rejection in some way and have the sheriff grant your plate.

5 You have an existing owner declare that you are his manager or agent. You then plate your car with his plate and pretend to work for him when in reality you work for yourself and pay him a weekly fee.

6 Have an existing owner plate your car and pretend it's his. Same deal as above but no agent status.

thanks for your help everyone, but what I was asking was a price for a glasgow airport plate rental or transfer as an elderly relation is retiring and wants to transfer or rent out his plate at glasgow airport and cannot get an idea of what to ask for.
I know this is a public forum and many wont want to state figures but any idea would be helpful.

It's not his property, it belongs to the council. It is not a nest egg or pension top up.
Your elderly relative should return the plate to the council if he no longer wants to operate it.
That way it can be issued to someone else who does want to operate their own plate.

If he wants to continue to operate it, he should keep it on a vehicle which is his, and insured in his name.
He can then employ a driver to work for him if he wants to retire from driving.
This is legal.

There are several other routes which vary between shady and downright illegal.
Your elderly relative should be well aware of what these are and what the going rate is, unless he hasn't driven his cab for a very long time.

thanks for your reply, he has not worked for a few years and has a driver on the cab, he has been out of touch with other drivers and whats happening on the rank and has been charging the same amount to the driver for more tan 5 years that is why I was asking what the going rates were nowadays, I feel that he is way off the mark with his weekly rate now and the driver is not letting on for obvious reasons, thanks for all replies

Rates across the country are falling due to the downturn in the economy.Maybe he should stick to what he is getting at the moment.

He could sell the plated cab to the driver if he wants to take it on, he would just need to licence it in his name

They are restricted. He wouldn't get a new licence in his own name and transfers are illegal (unless Glasgow airport has moved south of the border).

So how do they do it in Edinburgh??

You create a company with yourself as a director and then invite the ''buyer'' to join the company. You then resign with the ''buyer'' now the sole director. Easy as. There are Accountants that will do all the donkey work if you are not up to it yourself.
