Taxi Driver Online

I am sure you have all heard about these rights that people are supposed to have. You know, your right to the presumption of innocence before guilt. The right not to be forced to become a witness against yourself, or should I say, your right of silence when faced with a malicious allegation. Your right to a fair hearing, to be judged by people who are impartial to the process of deciding a persons innocence or guilt. Then there's the little matter of corroboration when deciding that some fact or statement is true. I could go on … Well none of this applies to taxi drivers.

The legal fraternity is of course complicit in this carve up of Taxi driver rights. Lawyers make pots of cash when feigning proper legal representation both at council and court levels under the CGSA. Lawyers are smart enough to know what side, their bread is buttered on. They don't care your rights are being abuse for them. It's only about the money.

In short, driving a taxi turns you into a second class citizen – you have no rights. Your council can do whatever the hell they like.

Now for someone like me, the above is totally unacceptable. I have too much dignity to allow scumbag councillors or charlatan lawyers to treat me in this manner.

To me, it is simply a question of dignity. I can't and won't accept this kind of abuse just to drive a taxi.

Now why do you?

I am genuinely interested in your answers. This forum is littered with tales of councils' abusing taxi driver rights, but still it goes on.

Seeing as your no longer want to be a taxi driver there's no need for you to frequent these forums any more

This thread is not about me Longshanks. It's about you. Why don't you make an attempt at answering the question? I have a theory as to why people like you find it perfectly acceptable for others to deprive you of any dignity.

See this as an opportunity to expand your tiny little mind. Who knows, you might even learn something.

To find Dignity i believe you have to come from a certain kind of Humbleness, to be humble in your case you have to accept defeat, you have to move on and with dignity become a better person than the oppressor's that held you down, Skull you say it yourself, you cannot beat the system but you can leave with what you call your dignity intact, you must though accept you played your own part in your demise so that's why i ask the question, Have you really found Dignity

Not all councils treat taxi drivers as second class citizens even if that is the way you feel they do. I think you'll find that most taxi drivers don't even consider how the council treat them until they are dealt with by the council in an unfavourable manner. Most taxi drivers just get in their cab, do their job and go home. Sometimes they're content with their takings and sometimes they aren't, but, for most that is the extent of their concern.

As a trade, generally, taxi drivers are not pro-active and the council know this. You say it yourself when you say such things as "just to drive a taxi". Stationtone says it when he says "I taxi to put taties and mince on the table". If you have no pride in what you do you aren't going to be happy with anything about the job let alone be pro-active. Both of you are pro-active in trying to force change within the trade, but, now perhaps a little dismayed because the majority of drivers don't want to force change. This is probably more because they're too afraid to rock the boat than anything else. If you try to improve vehicle standards drivers will worry about how they are to finance such things and if you try to improve driver standards drivers will worry if they will be able to meet the standards.

Although my next comment may be considered sexist it's a well known fact that women adapt to change far easier than men and are far more inclined to stick together so perhaps we should have a trade full of women

As to whether you have any dignity I no not but I do know you appear to be a very stubborn man. Perhaps you should buy a dinghy

Dougie, this is not about me. I have left the trade, my leaving date being the end of August when my licence officially expires. My dignity is intact. I would never allow the Council or the Cab Inspector to treat me the way they do the likes of you, and that's the difference between you and me. You pay a higher price than I ever would. You have no dignity, Dougie. You don't know the meaning of the word, because if you did, we wouldn't be having this debate.

You are like the Kapos in the Jewish concentration camps, a trustee inmate carrying out the will of the council.

Think about it Dougie, their rules don't apply to me, and they never did, everything they do was for your benefit, not mine.

So tell us all Dougie, what's it like to live and work without dignity?

I'm not Whipped in and out of my Taxi Skull, i play the game as is and with pride i do so to the letter of the law, we live in a free society with the right to choose our path, if you can't see this Skull then you are blinded and deluded by some kind of thinking you are superior to others, i'm happy to conform, my freedom is my reward but everything comes at a price and trust me it's a price worth paying.

Skull you have no Dignity and that is a shame

Dougie, did you read my opening post to this thread. I didn't make it up, but yet you defend your little world with "dignity".

As a taxi driver you have no rights Dougie. You don't play the game you are a slave to the illusion that they allow you to have.

Having dignity for oneself doesn't even come into it.

Do you need me to explain any of the above Dougie?

If you had any dignity Dougie, the above would be as unacceptable to you as it is to me.
