A quote from a recent press release from the Local Government Groups Chairman, sorry, "Chair" of the "Local government association's safer and stronger communities programme board" (phew thank heaven that exists!)

"Given the clear public expectation that TAXI AND PRIVATE HIRE VEHICLES should be subject to ENHANCED CRB checks the LGG is urging the Home Office as it considers the Mason review of the criminal records regime..."

Question. How do you find out if your vehicle has a criminal record?

And would it be legal to seek an enhanced CRB, taking into consideration the Police Act 1997 (criminal records) and The Statutory instrument 2009 No. 1182 (regulations 2009) and the SVG Act 2006?

Makes sense to me but Jimbo has a point mind you our council has now decreed that we will no longer require enhanced CRB checks BUT the fees for the checks will NOT be reduced

So. Standard CRB in North Kesteven.

Standard CRB in South Kesteven.

The reason your council no longer "require" an enhanced CRB, is because they cannot legally demand them for a taxi driver in the normal course of his duties.

See. CRB Newsletter dated March 2011.

CRB Eligible positions guidance.

Part 1 of schedule 4 to the safeguarding vulnerable groups act 2006, and part 2 of the same ACT (not guidance) ACT.

And more, all easily found on the net.

Your Licensing Authority DO NOT have the legal right to an enhanced CRB check.

Well done, to NKDC / SKDC for acting within the law.

What's your council policy on this LEGAL matter?

Do you want to post a comment Kevin?

Whenever I hear that phrase, it conjures up images of a bunch of wild people all holding 2 foot long pieces of 2" x 2" wood sharpened to a point at one end chasing after Dracula!!

What's wrong with 'Interested Party Groups'.
