Rossendale taxi driver groped female passenger A TAXI driver has been warned he could be facing jail after admitting two sex attacks on a female passenger in Rossendale. Detectives arrested Shamraz Akhtar, 28, after a woman complained of being molested on her way home from the Rhythm Station night club in Rawtenstall earlier this year. Akhtar is said to have groped her on two separate occasions during the journey from the New Hall Hey Road venue, in the early hours of Sunday, February 13. She fought him off, after he propositioned her in the cab, and was able to run to her home and raise the alarm. He was first arrested last March and then released on bail on forensic tests, before he was charged. Akhtar, of Padgett Street, Keighley, appeared at Burnley Crown Court where he admitted two offences of sexual assault. Remanding him on bail for pre-sentence reports until August 26, Judge Beverley Lunt said: “All options, including prison, will have to be considered.” Because of his bail conditions, Akhtar is no longer allowed to work as a taxi driver. But a further restriction, banning him from entering Lancashire, except to attend court, was lifted by Judge Lunt. Akhtar’s taxi licence had already been suspended by the borough council while the investigation was taking place. source: http://www.thisislancashire.co.uk/news/ |

Well, a correct use of bail conditions...... .....and a correct use of Section 52! Wonders will never cease it seems. |
