Notts Hire car drivers banned for plying for hire

Three private hire car drivers have been banned from driving for six months after driving without insurance while illegally plying for hire.

Mohammed Sanger Khan of Grimston Road, Radford, was disqualified by the District Judge for driving without insurance. He was ordered to pay £265 in fines and costs.

Mahfooz Alam of Gregory Boulevard, Hyson Green, and Naveed Khan of Milford Drive, Bakersfield, received penalty points and were disqualified under the totting up process.

Mourad Dziri of Hereford Road, Bakersfield, also admitted driving without insurance and plying for hire. He was allowed to retain his licence after the court accepted that banning him from driving under the totting up procedure would cause exceptional hardship.

All three drivers were ordered to pay more than £500 each in fines and costs.

Nottingham Magistrates Court was told that private hire cars should be pre-booked by their passengers and any private hire car driver who picks up a passenger without pre-booking is likely to invalidate his car insurance. Only green taxi cabs are allowed to pick up passengers who flag them down in the street.
