Taxi driver killed himself after car broke down

A taxi driver shot himself after he was forced off the road for two months.

John Kerr was found dead by his nephews at a beauty spot on the banks of the River Adur.

Mr Kerr, 65, had gone missing from the home he shared with his brother William in Priory Field, Steyning, on July 27.

The self-employed taxi driver had been unable to work after his car's engine developed a fault, an inquest at Worthing was told.

His family told police Mr Kerr was a creature of habit and that the disruption caused to his life by the loss of his car had “thrown him out of sync”.

He had worked nights for 30 years and suddenly found himself with time on his hands during the day.

Martin Milward, deputy assistant coroner for West Sussex, recorded a verdict that Mr Kerr took his own life.

John was one of the most pleasant easy going chaps you could ever wish to meet.

How on earth he got to the state he did, only he knew, but if the job got on top of John that much, then believe you me it can get on the top of anyone.

RIP John. =D>

That might have tipped him over the edge, but I can't believe it's what set him off. There's got to be more to this than an engine problem and a few months down time.

Someone isn't telling the whole story, and if they really don't know they have a bloody good idea.

Indeed.

I suspect the family are content for the car being given as the problem, when maybe that's not the case.

And if that's what they want conveyed, then so be it.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist but when something stinks, I always wonder who benefits from the smell going away. :-|

It sounds like he needed some help to deal with things.

very sad but i cannot believe an engine fault would put the car out of action for that long. Sounds as if the family have a few secrets and perhaps its better to leave things at that and let the car take the blame

I think the family have some things they wish to keep to themselves, but I think they are doing that in memory of John, not for any other reasons.

I think the above tells at least a part of the story. Strange, they appear to have known something was wrong but also where to look supposing they were right, unless of course, his two nephews just happened to stumble upon his body at the banks of the river.

You would have thought the police or maybe a member of the public would have discovered him first.

If you know where to look, you must have a good idea why you are looking, and what you might expect to find assuming you are correct. :-|

It looks to be more than simple guess work to me. :-|

A chap in my town has a Vauxhall Zafira. It is a 2007 car. It developed an engine fault in February. The car has been off the road until last Friday when it was eventually fixed and re-plated. In the end he had to have a new engine fitted.......TWICE!
