Attacker is still working despite driver's worries

A KNUTSFORD cab driver who was beaten up by a fellow driver says he is unhappy his attacker is still allowed to work as a taxi driver in the town.

The Guardian reported the incident in April this year, which resulted in John Robertson suffering injuries to his head and being taken to Macclesfield hospital.

Babar Manwar Chaudhry, from Manchester, was handed a community order for 12 months, comprising 160 hours’ unpaid work, plus £200 costs at Macclesfield Magistrates’ Court on August 12 after being found guilty of actual bodily harm.

He was also ordered to pay Mr Robertson £175 in compensation.

John told the Guardian how he could not understand how Mr Chaudhry was still allowed to operate in the town after his conviction.

“I get nervous when I see him around town on Friday and Saturday nights,” he said.

“He is entitled to work in Knutsford but I was expecting him to be banned because as I understand the licensing laws you have to be clean for three years.

“I phoned licensing at Cheshire East but they said they had had no complaints from members of the public but he attacked me.”

John was invited to the meeting held by the licensing department at the authority, which discussed Mr Chaudhry’s situation but he was unable to attend because the meeting was timed at 3pm and he had a school contract to fulfill.

Clr Rachel Bailey of Cheshire East Council said: “We are unable comment on individual cases. However, the council considers the application of its policy relating to criminal convictions on an individual basis, taking into account the circumstances of the case.”

Obviously there's a few teething problems, especially considering the victim now has no teeth.....but I thought this good old system were have......with taxi driving being a notifiable occupation......the licensing department would have been the first to know.

I'm quite sure another time could have been arranged.

The thug's license needs to be reviewed, quite why they need the victim to instigate it I'm not sure. :-k

He's been convicted.....why not immediately suspend him and get him in front of a committee?

Are you proposing and promoting the use of section 28?

Well there's a turn up for the books.

section 28?

Furious driving?

Rimmer: In which case we can remove him from duty as per Space Corps Directive 196156.

Kryten: 196156? Any officer caught sniffing the saddle of the exercise bicycle in the women's gym will be discharged without trial? Hmm. I'm sorry, sir, that doesn't quite get to the nub of the matter for me

I meant 52 - and in Plymouth 28 is "Fees for vehicle and operators' licences".

Rimmer: Kryten, you're forgetting about Space Corps Directive 1742!
Kryten: 1742? "No member of the Corps should ever report for duty in a ginger toupee." Well, thank you for reminding me about that regulation but I can't see how it is pertinent to our present situation.

I'll say it....they probably know he will appeal and this will cost the council to defend and when they get to remove him he won't pay the costs and the taxpayer will be out of pocket once again.

Be nice to know the full in's and out's of the case though, why the Asian attacked the British guy, was the British guy abusing him, is the Asian a bully, it's not always black and white as they say.

If it didnt happen how come a local paper would name Babar Manwar Chaudhry in their little local paper as being accused by his colleague.

I can't find an original article on this :x

I didn't say it didn't happen, I just wonder what was the ignition source for it.

Does it matter.....the sentence suggests the cps took it as serious.....and he wasn't let off on the basis of provocation.....as I would have thought the article would have said?

They never do say tbh, and the truth isn't forthcoming these days, the manipulated version is what we get, I find it hard to accept that unprovoked this driver attacked another driver, there has to be a story behind it one way or the other.
