Driver fined after investigation by Tewkesbury Borough Council

A MAN has been found guilty of acting as a private hire driver without having a current license.

Tewkesbury Borough Council gathered evidence against Paul Grainger, 44, of Hayden Hill Farm in Boddington, Gloucestershire, to prove he was offering chauffer services such as airport transfers and Cotswold tours without holding a valid licence, after receiving several complaints.

On Monday, August 20, at Cheltenham Magistrates Court, Grainger was found guilty in his absence of two counts of operating a vehicle as a private hire vehicle without having a current licence.

Grainger, who was operating the private hire services from his home address, was fined £400 for each offence, ordered to pay £15 victim surcharge and £500 costs.

Tewkesbury Borough Council’s Lead Member for Community Development Coun Sue Hillier Richardson said: “Public safety is of paramount importance to us, which is why private hire drivers are required to meet high standards to hold a licence, which includes an enhanced CRB check.

“The public must only use licensed vehicles, which will always have a licence plate with the council’s logo, and all licensed drivers should display a photo ID.

“If anyone has any concerns about a private hire vehicle they have used, I encourage them to get in touch with the council.”

No matter how easy it may seem to not turn up, that's the worse thing that anyone can do to themselves.

The amount of people that are found not guilty when they don't turn up to a trial can be counted on the toes of Long John Silver's wooden leg.
