Taxi drivers missing out amid Dundee railway station disruption

Taxi drivers in Dundee have complained they are missing out on trade due to poor signs at the railway station.

John Taylor said he and other drivers have experienced a drop in custom since the station car park was shut and they were directed into a new taxi rank.

''I work mostly at the train station and we've been given a lay-by across from Discovery Point," he said. ''There's signs saying 'taxis this way' but they are only like A4 sheets of paper.

''The bit where customers have to come round is so dark it's not safe. You are losing out on trade with people going into town.''

Dundee City Council city development convener Councillor Will Dawson said the local authority will be doing more to help.

He said: ''Changes to arrangements for motorists at Dundee railway station came into place last Monday as the latest stage in the £1 billion waterfront project.

''The lay-by to the west of the station, on the same side of the road, is being extended to take in the taxi rank and also the drop-off and pick-up zone for people using the station. Signs have been put up to direct people to the lay-by.''

He added: ''We are also putting in lighting improvements."

It's quite easy Councillor Dawson...the revenue from the Taxi Trade is in the coffers for such situations and, should be accessed immediately to rectify the problem no ??
